Flax and Hemp: From Ancient Crops to Modern Composite Materials
Flax and hemp were once Europe's most important industrial crops, supplying fibre for linen, rope and sailcloth. Today engineers are rediscovering them as lightweight, strong raw materials for natural fibre composites in automotive interiors, construction and furniture. This article traces their journey from field to product: fibre structure, retting and processing, and the European partnership between Eve Reverse (NL) and FUSE Composite (DE) strengthening the bio-based value

Eve Reverse joins awarded Eurostars project AEERO to develop quieter electric propulsion for heavy-lift UAVs
Can natural fibres help make heavy-lift UAVs quieter? That is one of the questions Eve Reverse will explore in AEERO, a newly awarded Eurostars project focused on the development of an adaptable and efficient electric ducted-fan propulsion system for resilient logistics. On Tuesday June 23, Eve Reverse and the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) attended the Dutch Eurostars winners’ meeting, organised by RVO. Rik Westerink and Karel Brans represented Eve Reverse during t

FUSE and Eve Reverse collaborate on natural fibre composites
FUSE Composite and Eve Reverse are joining forces to accelerate the practical use of European hemp in natural fibre composites. The collaboration combines FUSE’s bio-based semi-finished materials with Eve Reverse’s expertise in composite processing, testing and product development. Together, the companies aim to shorten the route from plant to product and develop lower-impact lightweight solutions for mobility, interiors, acoustic elements, sports products and other applicati

When the local option is not the lowest-impact option
Local sourcing often seems like the more sustainable choice. Shorter distances should mean fewer transport emissions, at least, that was our initial assumption. During a recent collaboration with Bambooder Biobased Fibers and Qconcepts, we explored how bamboo fibres could be used in a lower-impact biocomposite watercraft application. To support the design process, we used life cycle assessment (LCA) to compare alternative sourcing, material and manufacturing routes. Two decis

Hemp2Comp: Building Local Value Chains for Hemp-Based Composites
Eve Reverse contributes to Hemp2Comp, an Interreg project developing local value chains for hemp-based biocomposites in Flanders and the Netherlands. The project covers hemp fibre production, bio-based resins, product design, testing and end-of-life scenarios. Eve Reverse assesses the environmental impact through life-cycle analysis (LCA), using global warming potential (GWP) to calculate and help reduce the CO₂ footprint of materials, processes and products.
